Career Advice - You win or you Learn

Very often in life we feel that we have to win at everything ALL THE TIME.  This is neither humanly possible, nor actually true.  Through experimentation and taking calculated risks we stretch ourselves, our abilities and grow.  Through some of my worst times and considerable failures I have developed as a person.

A CEO I once worked for in my youth told me that failure was not only healthy but in our relationship it was essential.  He said to me: "You're next success will be your first failure as we will both learn something. You will learn you are not infallible, what failure feels like and that it's OK to fail.  I will learn that you are capable of failure and maybe will stop giving you everything to do, knowing it will get done."

Don't take wild risks, but do push yourself to stretch your boundaries as you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.  And at the end of the day if you "lose" you learn, so you either win or you learn.
